Rick O’Connor, president and CEO of Black Press has been appointed to the Inland Press Association board. Jeff Patterson, a regional president of Adams Publishing Group, has been appointed to the Inland Press Foundation board.
They are filling vacancies created by the resignations of Lee Sawyer, who recently retired as senior vice president and Newspaper Division COO at News-Press & Gazette Co., and John Montgomery, a former GateHouse Media senior group publisher.
O’Connor started in publishing in Canada in 1978, and in 1983 sold his company to Black Press, which he joined in 1998.
Patterson has been president of Minneapolis-based APG West since July 2014. He has been vice president of a magazine publishing group and director of business development for a video network. From 1994 to 2010 he was publisher for the RiverTown Newspaper Group in Woodbury, Minn.
Under the Inland bylaws, the board of directors may fill mid-term board vacancies by appointment. Those appointees serve until the next regular election for directors and officers, held in conjunction with the annual meeting. Names of both O’Connor and Patterson will appear on the regular nomination slate to be considered at the annual meeting Sept. 10-12 in Colorado Springs.
