Paxton Media Group, a fifth-generation family-owned company based in Paducah, Kentucky, added to its Border States holdings with the acquisition of three newspapers from Civitas Media: the Grayson County News-Gazette in Leitchfield, Ky.; the News-Democrat & Leader in Russellville, Ky.; and the Macon County Times in Lafayette, Tenn.
Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a media merger and acquisition firm based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, represented Civitas Media in the transaction. Terms were not disclosed.
The Grayson County News-Gazette is a twice-weekly that has been published for more than a century. The News-Democrat & Leader has roots dating back to Russellville's first newspaper published in 1806, and is also a twice-weekly. The Macon County Times, publishes every Thursday.
The papers will join other surrounding Paxton publications in a group managed by Group Publisher Bob Morris. That group includes four dailies-the Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro, Ky.; The Messenger in Madisonville, Ky.; the Daily Clarion in Princeton, Ind.; and the Sun-Commercial in Vincennes, Ind.-as well as five bi-weekly and weekly publications.

Paxton Media Group owns more than 30 daily newspapers and numerous weekly publications across Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.
