Publisher Benchmarks is a reimagined newspaper performance benchmarking tool that replaced the longtime gold standard newspaper benchmarking, the National Cost & Revenue Study.
Publisher Benchmarks employs a Web-based dashboard with a virtually unlimited array of customizable metrics and comparisons. The confidential performance data is refreshed on a quarterly basis and available to participants 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In addition to the traditional so-called competitive sets or “comp sets” such as circulation size or geographic location, the tool provides benchmarking against numerous categories. Family-owned newspapers, for instance, can compare themselves to other family-owned papers.
Those who outsource printing or delivery can make apples-to-apples comparisons. Groups can assess themselves against group-owned businesses, or compare performance by properties within their group. They can compare themselves against the average performance of peer newspaper business, or top performers.
