There were a lot of storylines when two Illinois high school baseball powerhouses clashed for the IHSA Class 2A championship.
For instance, the father who won the championship for St. Bede’s High School 30 years ago watching his son win the championship this June for Hall High School. There was the tense championship game in June that went past the regulation seven innings tied at 1-1.
But there was another line that brought a win to the NewsTribune of LaSalle, Illinois—a top-line revenue gain of $12,800 from pages and newspaper wraps as Hall advanced in the State Tournament, and won the Championship.
As Local Advertising Manager Jeanette Smith described the campaign for the recent Mission One: Revenue conference, sponsored by Inland and The Blinder Group in Atlanta, the campaign ended up delivering a “feel-good keepsake edition for the community,” and, serendipitously, being “an easy sell.”
“We sold a few Good Luck pages leading up to the week of the State Tournament,” Smith wrote. “When the team advanced to State, we ran a 4-page wrap that generated $4,000. The (Hall) team won the State Title, and in one day we were able to sell a Championship wrap that generated $8,000 in revenue!”
Just like Hall, the championship was an extra-inning victory for the NewsTribune.
