Welcome, Black Press, Canadian and US newspaper publisher, to Inland

Black Press, the Victoria, British Columbia-based publisher whose extensive holdings include the U.S. metros Akron Beacon Journal and Honolulu Star-Advertiser, is the newest member of the Inland Press Association. 

David Black is the majority owner of Black Press. Torstar, publisher of the Toronto Star, owns a 20% stake in the company. Its president and CEO is the veteran publisher Rick O’Connor. 

Among its notable dailies are the Peninsula Daily News of Port Angeles, Wash. and The Garden Island of Lihue, Hawaii, in the U.S.; and the British Columbian papers the Cranbrook Daily Townsman; Kimberley Daily Bulletin; Trail Daily Times; and Maple Ridge News. The flagship of its Prairie Division is the Red Deer (Alberta) Advocate.
